For our cherished children,
Dearest ones,
We hope and pray that we’ll be blessed with long lives to witness YOUR wedding anniversaries. But this letter is for those moments when, perhaps, we may not be by your side.
Our world is always shifting. By the time you both mature, changes may occur at an even more rapid pace. Yet, while some transitions are beneficial, there are areas in life that demand resistance to change, to maintain their essence. Marriage stands tall among them.
Please know that our journey together wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows. Like many, we’ve faced our share of disagreements, challenges, and even heartaches – be it due to health scares, childlessness, or other life hurdles.
Like most, our commitment has been tested time and again. We’ve shed tears, exchanged heated words, and had silent moments. But through it all, prayer and unwavering belief have been our anchors, reminding us that these challenges are but a small price for our everlasting love.
We celebrated our recent wedding anniversary surrounded by dear friends, with you both bearing witness. Buddy, you’ve often wondered why you weren’t present at our actual wedding, so this was a special occasion to recommit our love in your presence.
As a legacy, here are some insights we wish to leave you with, collected from our years together:
- Constantly Strive – Embrace the highs and lows; both contribute to the growth and depth of your relationship.
- Prioritize Honesty – Open communication is key. While speaking your truth can be hard, accepting it can be even harder. It’s this truth that fosters trust.
- Respect Individuality – While cherishing your togetherness, recognize and appreciate each other’s unique qualities and passions.
- Be a Good Listener – Often, it’s more about hearing than advising. Listen actively and respond with thought and care.
- Embrace New Adventures – Sharing fresh experiences, whether big or small, strengthens your bond.
- Avoid the Blame Game – When life throws curveballs, pointing fingers won’t help. Instead, face challenges hand-in-hand.
- Physical > Digital – While technology has its merits, nothing beats the warmth of a physical touch or a heartfelt conversation.
- Show Your Love – Daily expressions of love, be it through words or actions, fortify your bond.
- Cherish Every Moment – Recognize the impermanence of life. Strive to leave behind cherished memories.
- Faith in the Divine – Trusting a higher power provides strength during tumultuous times. Remember, God is the embodiment of love.
Through all our years, given a chance, we’d choose each other once more, without hesitation. Our guiding verse, from Ecclesiastes 4:12, serves as a reminder of the strength of our bond. May it light your path in all relationships:
“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
