“Quick kids, this way!” I called out to my children as the event staff began packing up after our memorable Safari Zoo Run.

The midday sun blazed, but the energy was still high. Even after missing a year due to my recovery from surgery, this annual run remains a cherished event for our family.

    Here’s why:

A Triad of Adventure: This unique run granted us access to three parks – Singapore Zoo, River Safari, and Night Safari. As we participated in the initial wave of the non-competitive family category, we had the privilege to observe animals in their most active state during the early hours. The sight of hippos, tapirs, hyenas, and even a group of lions left Buddy, my son, so thrilled that he broke into his rendition of the ‘Lion King’ song. Such spontaneous moments were delightful!
Active Learning: What’s better than a family outing amidst nature? The run’s theme, ‘Run For Wildlife’, not only brings families closer to nature but also resonates the message of conservation. With categories like ‘Run for Clean Air’, ‘Run for the Forest’, and ‘Run for Clean Water’, the run also serves as a learning journey, especially with the addition of the River Safari in the race route.
Something for Everyone: Whether you’re a professional athlete, an amateur runner, or someone who just wants to enjoy a day out, the Safari Zoo Run caters to all. From the intense 12 km Safari Zoo Challenge for the pros, to the fun-filled 2km dashes for kids, and a relaxed 4 km family walk – there’s a race for every pace.
Beyond the Race: This isn’t just about reaching the finish line. By traversing the three parks, families can bond, revel in nature, and learn about the importance of conserving it. This multi-dimensional experience gives the run its unique charm.
Additional Perks: The fun doesn’t end once you cross the finish line. Every race bib entitles participants to free access to the Singapore Zoo and the River Safari. If that’s not enough, there are hefty discounts for Night Safari and Jurong Bird Park till. Also, numerous retail discounts for participants make the event even more worthwhile.

The moment the race began, watching my children burst with excitement was overwhelming and brought tears to my eyes. If I had to recommend one family-centric sporting event, it’d unquestionably be the Safari Zoo Run. It’s more than just a race; it’s an enlightening journey promoting family bonding and the essence of wildlife conservation.
